33021 Returns To Traffic in Leicestershire Sept 2010
33021 returned to traffic following restoration and repairs on September 17th 2010 at the Battlefield line.
Many thanks to all those who helped make this possible.
33021 Assists with Crew Training in Staffordshire Oct 2010
33021 Helped train the Churnet Valley Railway crews with their route familiarisation on the Moorlands and City Railway extension to Cauldon Low prior to the route re-opening
33021 Called upon on the big day Nov 2010
33021 Was called on to assist the Moorlands and City Railway opening day specials as water pressure problems on the line meant the steam service had to be supplemented.
33021 also ran as planned on the mixed traffic weekend, and for part of the diesel gala, until extreme cold temperatures caused the air system to freeze.
33021 At CVR until the spring Dec 2010
33021 is staying at the Churnet Valley Railway until the spring, covering 33102’s duties whilst it is re-wired and overhauled. It will receive some extended maintenance during this time period.
33021 has a quiet 50th Birthday Jan 2011
It was 50 years since 33021 was accepted as D6539 into BR service.
33021 active on the Churnet Valley Railway Shareholder services Feb 2011
33021 was used for banking GWR 5199 to Cauldon Low on a number of shareholder specials in late Feb.
33021 Lined up for Churnet Valley Railway Spring Diesel Gala March 2011
Details are announced of the CVR diesel gala will the full length of the CVR and MCR being in use again 33021 will be joined by 33102, 37075, 37109 and the lines class 104 DMU (Which was also built in the same
factory as the 33s). The dates for the gala are 26th and 27th March 2011.
33021 Performed well at the Spring Diesel Gala April 2011
In the end the diesel diagrams in the Spring Diesel Gala were shared by 33021 and 37109, the class 04 shunter and the line’s class 104 DMU.

33021 is currently carrying out all of the diesel duties on the CVR whilst other locomotives are being repaired or overhauled. This means the monthly Cauldon Low trips are being topped by steam loco 5199 and tailed by 33021.

33021 puts in a couple of evening shifts Real Ale Weekend July 2011
33021 ran the Friday (22nd) night supper trains and top and tailed the Saturday (23rd) evening Jazz train up to Cauldon
Low.
It has been agreed that 33021 will remain at the CVR / MCR for the next 12 months. We look forward to a successful period for all parties involved. It has been given ‘CN’ Cheddleton shed allocation for this period.
33021 Is named 'Captain Charles' at Churnet Valley Railway July 2011
33021 is now re-named as ‘Captain Charles’ being named on July 23rd, many thanks to the team at Cheddleton who gave him a bit of the ‘royal’ treatment of silver buffers and white lamp irons for the day. We think he looks far smarter
with his new image and comments received to date already agree.

Captain Charles was called on to help Father Christmas on his special trains on 21st and 24th December.
He also took two sets of holiday passengers to Cauldon Low at the end of the month.
33021 Takes a winter trip up Cauldon Low January 2012
33021 and the steam loco have yet another assault at Cauldon Low at the end of January, he assists with many winter jobs around the railway including work on the loop at Cauldon Low and a photo charter.
33021 Helps behind the scenes February 2012
33021 has been used on works trains throughout Feb along the length of the line, getting ready for the 2012 season. He keeps ever ready on standby, including for a famous blue engine and his friends.
33021 is left in charge March 2012
With 5199 heading home to Wales, 44767 George Stephenson with a boiler problem, 6046 not quite ready and no other mainline diesels on the line 33021 and the DMU are running the line.
Captain Charles achieves the first solo assault of the bank to Cauldon Low with a diesel locomotive and service train, following the commissioning of the loop, as the advertised loco had a problem, and then does
it again on a private charter a few days later.

33021 and the 104 DMU are getting busier as the season picks up covering the services on both the CVR and the Caldon Low excursions.

33021 has run 14 public days this month, covering schools days, ‘1940’s !’ weekend, wine and dines, CVR services, weddings and Cauldon Low excursions.
Steam back at CVR June 2012
Steam returned to the CVR with N7 69621 arriving, 33021 has given it a helping hand up the hill to Cauldon, but glad to see the railway able to offer steam services again.
Then right at the end of the month the steam fleet doubles as 6046 has its first ever run in preservation – well done to all involved in this mammoth task. Some adjustments and minor completion work should see the S160
back in use in July.
Captain Charles welcomes 'Sophie' back July 2012
The CVR’s class 33 has moved under its own power following an extensive overhaul, well done to Martin and his helpers. Sophie (33102) and Captain Charles (33021) have undertaken proving test running, but Sophie appears to
be performing well, and will retreat to the yard for finishing work to enable a return to service for the September diesel
gala. Update 33102 has also completed a proving run to Cauldon Low.
33021 continues in its standby role covering a few diagrams to keep the services running, and undertook its day of running at the Churnet Valley's Rail Ale weekend. Captain Charles also was called to additionaly cover the Saturday of the Rail Ale weekend whilst the N7 steam locomotive had some rectification work.

This month saw the results of a number of weeks preparation in getting 33021 into his new livery in time for a big surprise launch at the CVR 2012 diesel gala. We would like to thank all who helped in getting him ready (often involving long days / evenings) {you know who you are}, in between a number of duties. Also to those who helped keep his new identity secret until the day of the gala. We certainly turned a few heads!
Captain Charles was really playing a supporting role to the re-launch back into service after years of really hard work of 33102 which was named officially Sophie after years of carrying it unofficially. Well done to the small team who worked on her - you did an superb job. Also to 20059 who visited from the SVR again credit to the team involved.

Moorlands and City back on track at Endon. Nov 2012
Following the decision in the line's favour of the village green application the push is now resuming to Stoke 33021 to be playing its part in re-building the line.
The Yank is back Dec 2012
Well done to the CVR team in completing 6046 which looks and sounds splendid. Its Santa special time and Captain Charles is available if the very Charles is available if the very special visitor needs assistance with his train. 33021 also ran on mince pie specials.
